Last week, we’ve had the chance to have a chat with Matteo Matzke, a young Italian Dj hitting the international scene. The roots of his music go as back in time as age 12, when, as he told MITA, he bought his first console and discovered what would be his passion for life. After that moment, he kept practicing back home in Sicily, and started playing for Housepublic Records at various events such as the Rizla Event, on June 2015. He looks back at that particular gig with great emotions – in his words, “one of those unforgettable nights.” That was the very moment the dream came true, and he could share the console with artists like Joris Voorn, Nastia, Cassy, Hector Couto.
Another huge experience he went through, and really shaped him as an artist, was the JagermusicLab, where he had the chance to intensively practice for ten days with professionals in the industry. What deeply changed him and influenced his music, though, “was the city itself: Berlin is pure magic.”
His “climb” to success, has he defines it, begun with his ongoing collaboration with Tenax Recordings, a Florence-based international label. Here, he recorded his single “Es Wird Licht” (There will be light). The inspiration for this track, he says, came “just by following my instincts step by step, but also with the help of the singer Leonie Mikkie and her beautiful voice.”
When asked about his ideas for the future, he looks excited: “I definitely want to produce more. I’m actually working on an EP at the moment. I feel like I haven’t fully expressed my potential yet, and this is what really keeps me going!”
